Digital Photo and Video Contest

Description

An annual video and photography competition to enrich Aruba’s official website www.aruba.com

Objective

To explore and capture unique aspects on our island that usually does not get exposed. For example: typical sites, our people and Aruban landscapes captured with real Aruban sentiments. The Essence is to capture an image that can truly be considered as "The Treasure of Aruba." At the same time we are giving the Aruban community an opportunity to experience their own island in a different way.

Who can participate

The contest is opened for the general public (ages 10+), therefore any person owning a digital (video) camera can participate.

Campaign period

The contest begins October 19, 2010 and ends January 21, 2011. The moment you register for the contest, you automatically agree with the rules and regulations of this contest.

How to register

Entrants may submit in total no more than one video and/or picture per category. Each entry must comply with the following entry requirements:

  • Download and complete the PDF entry form that is provided below. If your submission includes models, please complete the Model Release Form. Include these forms with your digital video(s) and/or picture(s) on CD-ROM or DVD. Entry form must be complete for entry to be valid.
  • The entrant must be the producer of the video(s) and all of its content such as audio, video, and images. By entering the contest, entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted video(s) and/or picture(s) are original works created by the entrant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the video(s) and/or picture(s). In the event that the video(s) features audio, images, and/or performances of third party, the entrant must submit a written document (waiver, available below) in which the third party grants the entrant all rights over his/her audio, images, and/or performance and renounces to any payment or reimbursement of any kind from the Aruba Tourism Authority. In the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian model release must be provided upon request.

Technical specs for video(s) and photo(s)

  • Picture(s) must be taken with a digital camera and must be at least 4 inches by 6 inches with a resolution no higher then 300 DPI and in JPEG format.
  • Picture(s) will be judged based upon artistic creativity and quality that is captured within the camera. Photography cannot be modified with any kind of photo editing software. Picture(s) will be disqualified if judges discover photo manipulation.
  • Videos must demonstrate technical excellence, originality, and artistic creativity.
  • Videos must have a minimum duration of 30 seconds and a maximum duration of 120 seconds.
  • Videos formats include: AVI, DivX, DV, MOV, MP4, MPG.
  • In the event that the video(s) features audio, images, and/or performances of third party, the entrant must submit a written document (waiver) in which the third party grants the entrant all rights over his/her audio, images, and/or performance and renounces to any payment or reimbursement of any kind from the Aruba Tourism Authority. In the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian of the model's release must be provided upon request.
  • Obscene, provocative, or otherwise objectionable content will not be considered, and such determination is solely at the discretion of ATA.
  • The entries in each theme category will be judged separately, in accordance with the judging criteria, as defined below.
  • Limit one entry per person per theme category.

Judging

Contest consists of two (2) rounds of evaluation. A panel of Judges ranging from Professional filmmakers to Artists in our community will evaluate the entries based on the following criteria:

  • Clear message about the main topic “Treasures of Aruba”
  • Overall impact
  • Originality
  • Creativity
  • Quality

Judging will take place on February 2011. Decisions of the sponsors and judges are final and binding.

Official Rules & Restrictions

By submitting the video(s), you fully and unconditionally agree to and accept these official rules and the decisions of ATA, which are final and binding.

Submissions will not be returned. By submitting your video(s) you grant the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) complete rights of use, along with your name, on www.aruba.com and in any other of ATA's promotional materials without compensation to yourself or to any third party involved in the creation of this video.

All submitted videos must be from Aruba.
